Vegetable garden: growing horseradish
Preparing soil before planting is very important, compost needs to be added to enrich the soil. Plant directly the root (about 20 cm) in March-April. Root harvesting takes place the second year from September up to winter.
As with many vegetables it may be affected by diseases such as the rust (formation of red spots on the leaves because of the presence of a fungus) or pests including cabbage maggot (an insect that deteriorates the roots). Subsequently these diseases and pests cause a slower growth of the plant, which can even lead to the death of the latter. Horseradish is a vegetable but also a root.
