Vegetable garden: growing fennel
Planting starts in March-April up to July. Seeding should preferably be done away from the sun (seeding in nursery in March-April), or directly outdoors from May. Harvest period starts 3 months after planting and until first frost. Fennel is really sensitive to cold, all bulbs shall be removed from soil before first frost and grow in the basement in a box filled with sand.
Fennel is not really affected by pests and diseases. Nevertheless, from time to time, it can be affected by aphids that will deteriorate the leaves and suck the sap. Subsequently these diseases cause a slower growth of the plant, which can even lead to the death of the latter. A typical summer vegetable, fennel is not only a vegetable but also a bulb.
