Vegetable garden: growing avocado
Avocado is a perennial plant that appreciates the humus-rich soils, neutral (pH = 7), well- drained grounds and sunny exposure. To successfully grow avocados, place an avocado pit in a pot filled with soil. Regular watering is important to allow the growth of the avocado. It will take many years before harvesting.
Like any vegetable, avocado can be attacked by pests and diseases, including Phytophthora cinnamomi (a fungus that will cause yellowing of leaves and stem) and red spiders (insects that cause the dieback of the plant).
