The seeding lines start either in autumn if one wants to harvest between October and April, or in spring, between March and June for a harvest in June that continues up to when the seed becomes a plant. Harvesting takes place 2 months after planting when the leaves are green.
Watering shall be done on a regular basis: excess water can cause the foliage to yellow, the lack of water limits its growth and result in poor quality.

Pests and diseases may alter the growth of the plant, such as mildew (a fungus that will cause the appearance of brown spots on leaves) or sugar beet root maggot (will deteriorate the leaves that will weaken and easily break). Subsequently these diseases cause a slower growth of the plant, which can even lead to the death of the latter. Spinach is a vegetable but also a leaf.
